Reflection
Phase 4

Tuesday 18th January 2022

Phase 4 has come to an end and hand-in is near, so I thought I'd spend the last few moments reflecting upon Phase 4 and establish next steps for Semester two.

Phase 4:

During Phase 4, Kiera and I worked well together to enhance our game idea and came up with solutions for the issues that arose regarding the struggle to think of interaction ideas and the overall feasibility of our idea. We spent a lot of time this phase focusing on prototyping and testing, and creating visual demonstrations for how our idea might appear to users. This involved a lot of evaluation and review in terms of how players felt before and after gameplay, and relating this back to our refined essential experience and project goals. I believe we have concluded this Phase with a clear idea of what our game will be and how we can achieve this, but have left room for a lot of improvement and development over time. Within our Project Proposal we have established next steps for this project and created a schedule to demonstrate what we hope to achieve week-by-week. I am pleased with our current position and I'm eager to realise our idea further.

Drawbacks/Limitations

Unfortunately, I am writing this reflection just after recovering from Coronavirus! I didn't quite expect to be affected as much as I was which led to me being unable to continue the project for around 10 days. I certainly would have liked to refine the project a little more before proposing an idea, and I had planned to do a lot of user testing during that time which I couldn't do. To overcome this, it means next Semester I must focus on this first and refine our project scope in the first few weeks. This way we will be able to keep on schedule and eventually develop a successfully functioning game. We have a lot to achieve and produce next Semester but I believe with perseverance and belief, we can do it.

Next steps for Semester Two!

Semester Two is near and I am ready to tackle what this project brings. I am excited to further realise this idea as it's based on a topic my teammate and I are extremely passionate about! I'd love to explore where we can take this idea and even consider distribution of the project upon-graduating.

We definitely need to focus on refining gameplay and interactions at the beginning of Semester two, because this will make or break the experience. This will involve a lot of user/play-testing and evaluation. As well as this, I believe it's important for us to refine our project scope, because although it's a great idea, it's a huge amount to achieve! We must keep things feasible, and this might require us to read through things and evaluate how we can have the same impact, just in a much simpler way. I love the physical space idea and I think If we incorporated interactions into this it could be great. The application idea isn't as strong, so this might be something we have to consider refining or not using at all. But we will decide this in Semester Two. For now, I am proud of the amount we were able to do, under the circumstances of Coronavirus and a lot of stress. But it will all be ok in the end.

Within our Project Proposal we have outlined our next steps for the project in the form of a weekly schedule and the use of an Agile Methodology. The Proposal is a clear representation of our idea with all the necessary bits and pieces that comes with it. I hope you enjoy reading our proposal and all I can say is, trust the process!
