Creating my own visuals - Tilt Brush VR Game

EXPERIMENTING WITH EFFECTS

Tilt Brush VR consists of several customisation options for your own 360 degree environment. I was experimenting with their brush options and came across this 'firefly' effect. I loved how mesmerising and pretty this visual was, and thought it could be great for our project. It has a calming/relaxing feel to it which could be used to engage users. This is an example of a visual which could be implemented into our physical space environment!

GAMES

Nature Treks - VR Game

My analysis and review of this game can also be found here: Game Analysis

  • 9 immersive environments to choose from

  • Options to customise environment such as fire flies, plant trees, rocks, butterflies, weather conditions and night/day.

  • Soundtrack for each environment

  • Realistic audio effects

  • Animals

  • Satisfying animations

  • Gives player freedom to roam

I really love the options for customisation in each of these environments. For our project it could be useful to give the player some form of customisation in-game, to make the experience more personal!

EVALUATION

I would love to have been able to do more in the environment. I would've like to interact with my surroundings for example pet the animals or interact with the trees/pick the fruit. Although I understand the basic concept of this game and it's immersive elements. The visuals and sound of Nature Treks were the most engaging components of the game, and the realistic representation of the 9 spaces made me feel as though I had been transported there. I liked this feeling of being distant from reality and gave me a place to escape. The game also had an option to encourage steady breathing which I thought was an excellent feature - similar to meditation.

IMMERSIVE 360 DEGREE VIDEOS

Youtube Video - Van Gogh Experience

I went on youtube to gather some immersive video visuals and experiences to inspire my own! I found this Van Gogh Starry Night experience which was fascinating.

  • Camera moved with User

  • Environment represented Van Gogh's most famous art

  • Music was played throughout the experience which was mellow and peaceful

  • I felt calm and relaxed during the video

Youtube Video - Dreams of Dali 360 degree Experience

This is an Immersive Experience of Dali's painting "Archaeological Reminiscence of Millet’s Angelus". It gives Users the opportunity to experience the painting coming to life. Users can sit back and observe while the camera pans the audience towards the main elements of the painting.

  • I loved the eeriness of the experience.

  • The colours used were calming and relaxing.

  • Loved the dark sunset

  • Tranquil and empty atmosphere

Usability - Tilt Brush VR

I came across these options in Tilt Brush VR which allowed me to totally customise my space. Similar to the options we would have in our second project concept. These could be used as inspiration for environment options.

  • First clip shows options for environment types - easy navigation, swipe with thumb stick on right touch controller and hold with left hand

  • Bottom clip shows options for customisation

  • Environment type - snowy, space, outdoors etc

  • Weather conditions

  • Lighting

  • Colour of background and foreground

  • Change opacity

  • Adjust vibrance
