Project Proposal Plan:

Week 12 - Planning our Project Proposal

It's almost that time of year - hand-in time! I will be producing a basic plan for my Project Proposal which Kiera and I aim to complete before our presentation on the 18th January 2022.

Kiera and I will be writing our Project Proposal together with joint effort. We plan to write it via video chat discussion as I am currently isolating due to Coronavirus.

Phase 4 - Project Proposal

Within this section, I will be documenting my Project Proposal Plan including the steps I will take to ensure my Project Proposal is made to the best of my ability.

The link to mine and Kieras  final Project Proposal can be found here:

THE PROJECT PROPOSAL

What is it?

It's essentially a document of the most necessary information regarding the project we plan to take forward in Semester 2. The proposal should outline the project goals, content, structure and other relevant key points. Throughout Semester 2 we will develop and refine this document, so for now this will be version 01.

CONTENTS NEEDED:

  • Project Name

  • Abstract

  • Goals

  • User Experience - Audience

  • Critical and Competitive Analysis

  • Project Content - Components and Functional Specifics

  • Project Structure - Schedule

  • Design Appendix: Presentation, Sketchbooks, Concepts, Prototypes, Blog and Development screencasts.

PLAN:

Kiera and I plan to create a rough draft on Google Docs before finalising our Proposal to make sure we have all the relevant content included. We must ensure to keep it clear and descriptive with links to our research if need be.

MY BRIEF PLAN FOR CONTENT AND STRUCTURE:

Project Outline - This section must be a descriptive outline of the entire project, including its purpose, our intentions and project goals.

  • Abstract - Detailed description of the project and reasons for our choice. We must introduce and describe it and provide 'key examples' of visual research. Must be 500-1000 words.

  • Project Goals - Outline what Kiera and I hope to achieve from this project in terms of the game we develop and our own personal targets.

  • Team - I feel we should outline a little about our team, who we are and what we stand for.

User Experience - This section will outline the Audience/Target Audience and demographic for our game based on who we think will benefit from it and why.

  • Target Audience - We can include our choice for our target audience and provide an example or two of the personas we created to design in-line with. This will help us to demonstrate the impact our project can have on people.

  • Accessibility - Something Kiera and I have both spoken about a lot is accessibility. I believe it would be a great extra addition to our proposal, to outline the possibilities we have to ensure our final outcome is as accessible and inclusive as it can be.

  • Gameplay - Our project consists of a lot of information, so I think separating this into a Gameplay loop will make our intentions more distinct and easier to understand. This can consist of both the physical space and the mobile app split into two.

Analysis - This section could include our critical and competitive analysis as well as any extra information that might support this.

  • Competitive Analysis - A brief outline of why our project will be more successful over it's competitors. We can include comparisons to other games and reasoning as to why we believe this.

  • Critical Analysis - This must consist of an 'analytical framework' and key research sources for our project and how this will support us in Semester 2. It might be easiest to document this in the form of a table to separate our research areas as between us we have several. We can also include sources to take into Semester 2 that will support the design and development of our game.

Project Content - This should consist of the components we have established for our project and a brief idea of whats yet to come.

  • Components - The components should outline what we plan to make during Semester 2. Again it might be easiest to distinguish this within a table to separate our two areas of gameplay.

  • Functional Specifics - This should include dimensions of our physical space and any hardware and software we might use for this. E.g. use of projection mapping software or warping software for the 360 display in our own space. We must also highlight how we plan to distribute the project - should definitely outline our idea for potential intervention.

  • Art style/Direction - I feel this additional page will be necessary to give readers insight into how we visualise our game. We can provide our options for art style and explain how we have explored a variety but narrowed it down to the final few - include reasoning for this.

Project Structure - Establish a plan for Semester 2!

  • Methodology - We can choose a suitable methodology for Semester 2, including diagrams and how we intend to begin the semester, stage by stage.

  • Schedule - Must include a weekly schedule summarising what we hope to achieve by each week. The Semester consists of 12 weeks so we must consider each phase of our methodology and which tasks we might undertake during this time. (How long will they take?)

Marketing - I feel it will be necessary for us to include a marketing page as we have a lot ofids regarding how we can distribute our project as well as brand ourselves and our final product.

  • Image/Branding/Promotional Material - can consist of a page of steps we will take to enhance our social media platforms and plans for promotional material later on during development.

Design Appendix - A lot of my work is separated into different pages on my blog so I can link this where necessary and Kiera should do the same.

  • Presentation - We will produce and present our Project Proposal in the form of a presentation which will consist of concepts, mood-boards, visuals, prototyping and other supporting artefacts. Scheduled to take place on the 18th January 2022.

  • Sketchbooks - I have a sketchbook which I plan to hand-in to assist the documentation of my website. I also have a video 'flick-through' which I can link in this section.

  • Concepts - Kiera and I can link our concept pages on our individual websites as well as tests and reflections.

  • Prototypes - List prototypes we expect to make during the project e.g. what kind of resources and what do we expect to demonstrate?

  • Blog - Must link our personal development blogs.

  • Development screencasts - Video or screenshots with audio narration for the main elements of our project.

THE PROPOSAL

I am happy with my plan and I'm ready to begin writing up the Project Proposal with Kiera!
