Project Brief:

Tuesday 5th October 2021

'Research Phase' and 'Create Phase'.

These phases will be extended over 13 weeks until our deadline on Week 14, January 21st 2021.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?  (Notes also on Notion)

PHASE 1

Weeks 1-3:

  • Identify 4 starting points/topics and begin indepth research

  • Visit the library, gather resource material e.g. Case studies and books

  • Brainstorm

  • Sketching

  • Discussions

  • Visits/Field trips to assist research e.g. museums, galleries, studios etc

  • Be broad and rapid

  • During the final stage of Phase 1 I will be presenting my 4 starting points including all research materials, to gather feedback and refine to one topic

PHASE 2

Week 3-6:

  • Refine one starting point

  • Research this topic further, in much more detail than before

  • Generate visual research - sketch, mood-boards, photography

  • Think about Users and Interactions

  • Present research proposal - Present one refined topic and research material

  • Listen to other students presentations where I can then connect with a potential group to work with - Groups should be around 2-4 people. Ideally people interesting in taking a specific topic forward further.

  • Combine links, combine themes, share interests and group up.

PHASE 3

Weeks 6-10:

  • Play

  • Think about gamifying research

  • Prototype

  • Test

  • Create

  • Make

  • Present 3 distinctive game ideas

 

PHASE 4

Weeks 10-13:

  • Choose 1 Idea, play/prototype and translate it into 'GPP'.

  • Idea

  • Create

  • Consolidate

  • Enrich

  • Play

SEMESTER 2

  • We will be implementing an idea in Teams

  • Games for Launch

  • Set of prototypes

  • Demonstrate Idea

FIRST STEPS - Phase 1

​

My first steps for this module will to be fulfil the requirements of Phase 1. This phase will involve researching, gathering case studies and visuals regarding 4 topics. I plan to produce sketches, brainstorms/mind-maps and whatever will help me deep dive into my chosen topics. These 4 starting points will determine my chosen theme at the beginning of Phase 2.

TO DO LIST​

  • I firstly have to establish my 4 starting points by carrying out a variety of tasks and exercises to help me identify my interests and passions.

  • Our first workshop involved a task to fuel creative thinking which I plan to redo and expand my options

  • 5 W's

  • Word/picture association

  • Brainstorming

  • Research further into 4 starting points - books, journals, websites, visuals, facts, case studies

  • Lastly, prepare a presentation for the end of Phase 1

NEXT STEPS​

I will begin by checking off my to-do list and preparing for the next few weeks. I plan to keep a schedule on my Notion, of my tasks throughout each week, as well as guest lectures I have and my own personal documentation.

​

For this website, I plan to document my own personal documentation in more detail, including each phase of the project. I am going to begin Phase 1 by thinking about the 4 starting points of my choosing and beginning research.
