In this Game Review I outline my perception of the essential experience intended by the Game Designer through my Classmates trailer as well as the Lenses I think are most prevalent in the essential experience.

GAME REVIEW

Call of Duty: Black Ops

What do we assume was the essential experience intended by the game designer as we perceive it from the trailer?

The essential experience intended by the game designer was to give the player a sense of power and responsibility while having to deal with the pressure from the NPC's - In this case, the Zombies. From Kiera's trailer I can gather that the gameplay is quite fast-pace, applying more pressure to the player as the rounds progress. The experience keeps the players on edge, getting "more difficult each round" as well as keeping them immersed. Theres a feeling of success once a Zombie is shot dead, and therefore when completed, leaves the player feeling a sense of achievement. As well as this, the game designer intended to have players wanting more, to beat their highest round each time they play.

Which aspects of the lenses do we think are most prevalent in the essential experience for the game from what we can perceive from the trailer?

The lens that is most prevalent in the essential experience which Is suggested from the trailer is Lens of Projection. This is because players are given the opportunity to become face to face with the living dead, as well as being given the responsibility of killing them. This is not something someone would experience in real life, however in a game environment, would find it quite thrilling.

As well as this, it's evident that aspects of the Lens of Inherent Interest are prevalent in the essential experience for the game. Black Ops allows players to do something they have never done before involving interacting with the living dead. As rounds progress, the player is expected to avoid the Zombie attacks, experiencing an apocalyptic atmosphere.
