DEVELOPERS CHARTER

During the project we must abide by 'The Developers' Charter at all times:

We must be truthful about our capabilities and skill sets in order to take responsibility for tasks and complete them successfully, within the given time frame. We are responsible for our work and if issues occur, we must inform the team in order to resolve this. Communication is key! As a team we must keep each other regularly updated with progress and share work at all times - this allows us to keep track and be aware of our next steps. Most importantly, we are to treat each other with respect and kindness at all times! Health checks will be extremely necessary during this time, as well as keeping in regular contact to ensure each team member is kept happy and content.

During the first week of Game Development, we presented our Semester 1 Game Trailers and voted in order to narrow development down to 4 games.

The result of the voting was:

Misho

Membrane

Outer Mind

Anima Mundi

Project Leaders were then appointed for each game in order to lead the teams development successfully. The remaining students like myself were interviewed by the leaders to collectively gather a verdict on which game we should be assigned to.

INTERVIEW

Before my interview I considered which game would be best for me in terms of my skill-set.

Generally:

- 2D artist

- Prototyping

- Design

- User interaction/mechanics

- Experience Mapping

- Sound

- Promotional Material

Taking into account my skills and the typical role I'd have within a development team, I believed I would work best on the game Anima Mundi.

WHY?

I am mainly a 2D artist with some experience working in 3D, as seen in my Semester 1 Games Design project. I can happily persevere with skills such as 3D modelling and animation if need be.

I have a lot of experience working on user interaction and mechanics, as my previous game was a 3D Virtual Reality game, I was constantly looking into player interactions, experience mapping and prototyping them.

Narrative, dialogue and UI is something I covered briefly in Module 1, and would be happy to expand on this. Anima Mundi is based heavily on narrative and interaction with NPC's.

Most importantly after reading the Game Design Document for Anima Mundi, Josh stated how it was important for his game to have a soundtrack in order to add atmosphere to the experience, using "Piano and Soft Synthesisers" to achieve this. I have a grading in Piano and I am a lover for music, so I'd really love to potentially compose a piece for this game/vertical slice.

Lastly I have experience in marketing/managing a project as well as creating promotional material for this. I'd be happy to assist in the production of promotional material and social media channels for this game.

THE TEAM - The Project Leaders came to a decision and our teams were formed.

SCHEDULE

Our first tasks include setting up our blogs and getting everything prepared to begin development. Exciting times ahead!

TEAM TRELLO - https://trello.com/b/yI2fAAae/anima-mundi

This is where we will be posting our work week-by-week and Kiera (Team Leader) will be assessing our progress.

REFLECTION

I am happy with the group I have been assigned to and I am excited to begin development with them! It will be necessary to put in place a methodology and schedule we can use to organise ourselves properly, as well as taking into account time frame. (And in most cases, budget) I will abide to the developers charter at all times and ensure each team member is kept happy and satisfied throughout the project.

It's important we keep in regular communication and if anyone has a problem or query, we must address it. Meetings should be held in order to discuss progress, next steps and health checks!
